Every Food Business Operator (FBO) in India must obtain an FSSAI license. The FBO is required to hold a valid food license to ensure that every consumer receives a product safe for consumption, and that it conforms to the standards set by the FSSAI Act..

According to the FSS Act, 2006, it is necessary to obtain it by all manufacturers, storage units, transporters, distributors, retailers, box hawkers, etc. These FBOs are required to obtain FSSAI license from Food Safety and Standards Authority. India {FSSAI} before starting its food business. However, the validity of a food license is a maximum of five years. After that, the license needs to be renewed within the specified time. Renewal is necessary if you want to run the food business legally and as per FSSAI rules.

Initially, the validity of a food license is chosen by food business operators (FBOs), which can be from 1 year and extend up to 5 years. The fee to be paid by the applicant depends entirely on the number of years selected. According to FSSAI, every food business operator has to apply for renewal of license 30 days before the expiry of the current food license.

Procedure

Follow the steps given below:

  • First of all, you have to file your application in Form A (for renewal of original registration). or Form B (for the renewal of state or central license) along with the signatures of the authorized signatory. Also, you will have to attach the photo identity proof issued by the government along with the form.
  • In addition, the application for FSSAI license renewal must contain an audit report, FSMS plan, certificate or self-declaration regarding self-protection management system. Such declaration should be provided on the letterhead of FBO / Firm / Company as per the prescribed format..
  • Moreover, another requirement of the FSSAI license renewal is filing up of Form no. IX - Form for Nomination of Persons. It is the responsibility of the company to fill the form in the prescribed format.

Additionally, all FBOs are required to follow the guidelines given under Schedule 4 of the Registration and Licensing Regulation issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and all subsequent regulations issued by an authorized person / authority from time to time. . This should be attached to the application for renewal of FSSAI license. 
  • After receiving the application for FSSAI license renewal, officials will examine it and, if necessary, arrange an inspection at the business premises to ascertain whether the details related to the food business are correct..
  • The entire process of FSSAI registration or license renewal takes about & nbsp60 days. If you take more than 60 days, and if you have not received any notice from the concerned authority, then you can continue business without waiting for any other information.

Required Documents

You have to submit some documents to apply for FSSAI license renewal .

For Basic Registration

  • Form A is expected to be submitted and signed with documents supported by the FBO;
  • Identity proofs like PAN card, driving license, voter ID card, passport, Aadhaar card, senior citizen card;
  • Two passport size photographs of the applicant
  • NOC’s by Municipality or Panchayat, Health Department etc. if any;
  • Rent agreement if any.

For state or central license

  • Form B
  • duly completed and signed Photo proof and address proof of proprietor / partner / director (s) / authorized signatory.
  • Layout plan of food processing plant
  • List of Directors with their full address and contact details
  • ID and Address Proof of the above persons
  • Food category list (for manufacturers)
  • Letter designated by the authority to act on behalf of the manufacturer
  • NOC from the municipality or any other local body
  • Name and number of equipment’s as per installed capacity and horsepower for manufacturing and processing unit
  • Ownership requires partnership deed / or affidavit and a copy of MOA and AOA in case of a company
  • Specify the source of the raw materials of the meat and meat processing unit and the milk and milk-related products and the milk collection center where it is applicable
  • For Hotel Industry Certificate provided by Ministry of Tourism
  • • Report of water pesticide residues for packaging of products like minerals, carbonated drinks etc.
  • Certificate from Ministry of Commerce for 100% EOU (in case of central license)
  • IEC Documents issued by DGFT (in case of Central License)
  • • Supporting documents as proof of turnover (in case of central license)
  • Analysis report of water used in food (in case of central license)
  • Status proof is required (electricity bill, sales deed etc.) (in case of central license)
  • A canceled check

Result if FSSAI is not renewed

If FSSAI is not applied for renewal within the stipulated time period, a penalty of Rs 100 per day is imposed on

FBO. If not renewed on time, the license is considered expired. It is therefore necessary for the food business operator to obtain a new license. It is advisable to renew the license on time to overcome penalties and unnecessary hustle.

It becomes necessary to obtain a renewal license when orders regarding renewal of the application are passed. FBO must apply for renewal 30 days before the date of registration or license expiration.
